I was thinking that as this is your Golden Jubilee it would be lovely if you uploaded the first piece you ever had published in the NME. Perhaps you could publish it here to coincide with the date it was printed in the NME in ‘76. Or maybe share the review of Patti Smith’s Horses album that got you the young gunslinger gig in the first place. No matter how naive & teenagery it may be it’d be cool to read it as in some ways it’s the most important piece you ever wrote.

As a Retired Nurse and fellow Pensioner I’ve really enjoyed your halfling writing. It’s so beautifully written with such honesty and courage, damn I’m going to have to subscribe to the i Paper now!

One of the few upsides of you now being wheelchair bound is that you clearly have very little else to do but write. Your loss - our gain!

You bet!!! From today onwards - let’s have some fun AGAIN!! I’m ready looking forward to hearing your anecdotes.

Also, it’s a privilege to be able to be a part of your sub stack gang!

What would your teenage self have made of this electronic form of communication with fans and followers?!

Catherine, I was always A LOATHSOME LITTLE SHOW-OFF, so would have enjoyed it greatly, I think!

Life in pop music? Oh my God this will be epic, can't wait!

Will miss your Halfling writing but looking forward to the new direction of your Substack. I can honestly say I lap up everything you write with relish (even on the very rare occasions I don't agree with it), you're a dazzling ray of wit and forthrightness in this ridiculous and increasingly grey world. Long may you continue x

Wow, thank you - it's a date! Absolutely made up that YOU'RE NOT CROSS! X

Thank you, Julie, for sharing yourself in Halfling in a way that only you could have done. I can’t think of any other writer who could have pulled this off with such eloquence and raw honesty - and also have me cackling helplessly. Thank you for the update - I cannot wait!!

Everything you write is fun even when you’re feeling unfun ♥️

I told you last week — go for it, get back in the groove, a life around the music world will be our gain and from an expert. Don’t get a paper now, not physically anyway so will need to look out for the I Halfling notes and I hope you still have a slot in the Spectator. Cos I read that each week. I hope this is your jump off point to ——- whatever you wish and pray for yourself Julie! Good luck and count me in for the ride hon! Xx

Thank you Julie and please do keep on rattling the cages of the so-called great & the good! Loathsome show off…..? Surely not….!…..that was just a scurrilous rumour put out by several of your cringeworthy victims! 🙀😺 Now I too will have to start taking whichever periodical you are writing for. Thank you also for allowing us to respond! 😉
